Course Overview

The topics covered in Career Tools for Excellence may vary per semester; however, the following topics
that are covered consistently.

Team Building- Students engage in group activities to learn to work as a team.

Career Tools I Spring 2009

Communication Skills- Students learn the importance of good communication to succeed in the workplace, and practice these skills throughout the semester.

Project Management- Students have the opportunity to focus on the skills needed to bring their class team project to a successful conclusion.

Ethics and Attitudes- Students reflect upon the values of positive attitudes and ethics in the function of the workplace.

Cultural Diversity- Students have the opportunity to think outside the box and discover the larger context of diversity in the workplace.

Research Skills- Students discover new ways to research information to ensure successful projects.

Dress for Success- Students discuss and demonstrate appropriate workplace attire.

In addition, all students use general business software such as Microsoft Word, Power Point, and other
software products to complete their coursework. The class also requires the use of a online classroom
management system which encourages the students to communicate with both the instructors and other
